The owners purchased this century old home to be closer to their children, live comfortably and entertain their grandchildren. This historic home on a quiet street in the Kingston Historic Village had the charm and space they desired but lacked a master suite on the ground floor. We did not want to disturb the scale of the house or the relationship to the sunny rear garden, so we added a small addition to one side and enclosed a porch, allowing for a new master bedroom and bathroom, all approved by the Kingston Historic Commission. We moved the kitchen from the street side of the house to the garden side taking advantage of the elegant bluestone terrace and mature garden. We added a mudroom and powder room. Radiant heat was installed in the master suite and kitchen. Air conditioning, spray foam insulation and energy efficient appliances bring this home up to current standards.
